Bioregional Swap

The only sun in the San Francisco sky. That’s FOG in the background.

And so the time has come! It was So. Much. Fun. this morning, picking out your names from a bowl, two by two, each chosen with a wish for a perfect match. I actually clapped my hands with glee a couple of times.

Later on today and tomorrow, I will be sending out individual emails to each pair, so that the two of you can connect, share addresses, and to ask/answer any questions you may have.

In the meantime, here is each duo. For those of you who have a blog, I have linked to it so that your partner may spy upon you and glean further ideas for what you may like.

A BIOREGIONAL SWAP

What have you harvested this year? Do you plan on doing any canning? Did you come across so many feathers you don’t know what to do with them all? Have a favorite sea stone that whispers to you it’s dreams of seeing far off lands? Would you like to receive a care package from an old friend just met, with little magical gleanings from a land your feet may never have touched?

You have until October 1st to complete your package and send it out (to give enough time for late harvest canning or seasonal medicinal making!).

Here are some examples to give you an idea what your package could contain: Jam, salve, seeds, artwork, photos, pressed flowers, feathers, stones, bones, tinctures, flower essences, driftwood, poems, mixed cds, special books, homemade brews, embroidery, vintage thrift finds….anything that represents you and your bio region. (It goes without saying, but seeds/plants that could become invasive should be excluded from your package. For instance, dandelion seed!)

This is an opportunity to not only make a new friend and receive mail goodness, but also for you to deepen into your own definition of how the land you live on speaks to you.

  1. Thaks actually a great flower pic, Mary! Looking forward to swapping with Teeny in New Zealand – cool! Hi Teeny! :-)

  2. I have you!! Cool! Oooohh…..now I’m nervous, hehe. I hope I can make it interesting enough since I’m in CA also. My mind is spinning!

    • Kim, there is so much variety in CA, not to mention such flexible guidelines for “representing your bioregion” that i hope it can allay your worry! my biggest hope is for this to be an opportunity for each of us to interpret our bioregion in a personal and intimate way. xo

      • you are so right. i’m really digging how this is getting me to pay attention to what’s around me and how i feel about it being part of where i live/part of myself. thank you so much for this!

  3. Myb heart skipped a happy beat when I saw my name in the list! I’m now trying to think of some wonderful things to send…anything you want in particular Nicole? I’m trying to think of something Aussie to send? That’s not a kangaroo…

    • I am so focused on what I will be sending out that I don’t have any expectation of what I might get in return :) I love that we are so far apart geographically that whatever we come up with will feel like a revelation. In truth, if kangaroos were viable to mail, I would happily receive one, hehe. (And please do let me know if there’s some bit of california love you might hope to find in your box). Yay, already so many ideas….

  4. Hi Mamajack! I am thrilled to be swapping with you.

  7. Aw, I feel like I missed out on something fantastic, here! My sleep deprived mind read these blogs and thought “man, I wish I lived in over there, this sounds so much fun!”.
I do indeed look forward to keeping up with this and see how things turn out! What a fun idea!

  8. Yay! I don’t know if you know this but Anne and I have actually met-up in real life, in San Francisco no less, and have been regular readers of each other’s blogs for quite some time. Yet, somehow we’ve never done a swap and I’m so excited to finally do one with her, thanks for setting it up Mary!
